Element Combination Guide

EDIT: That original design bugged me since the day I posted it. Have a cleaner one with a few updated elements here and there.

Disclaimer: This is in no way official Bionicle canon or even entirely logical. This is just some little project I worked on for fun to organize some thoughts.

The origins of this come from my Bionifight character, Virse. In her universe, where the GSR was never built and Toa and Glatorian fought over Bara Magna for centuries, many Toa explored their elements and developed new sub-elements to replace the old. For example, Virse trained to control sand, but lost her native stone. Another character, Idegoh, learned to create cement while losing control of earth. Another possibility is for new combo elements, or for Toa reproduction, creating new elements in their offspring (not that I support that headcanon). I did my best to fit in all canon elements and combinations as well as some unique ones I have seen or come up with myself. The grayed areas don't have anything yet. There are some connections even I am not entirely happy with, and some elements that ended up in places I didn't want them. For example, I wanted smoke to be a derivative of Air, such as in Halkenverse Metru Nui, but it is under water/fire.

The way to read this starts in the middle with Creation, the fundamental and unobtainable element. Then it moves outwards to the six basic elements, Fire, Stone, Earth, Ice, Air, and Water. Each of those larger bubbles are surrounded by six groups colored corresponding to the elements you would need to combine to get there. For example, to obtain Steel, a Fire Toa could combine with stone to make Magma, and then earth. Some disciplines are easier to learn than others, something I meant to show in the chart, but lacked the time. Elements such as Life and Time are impossible to master, while elements such as Cement can be learned without mastering Mud.

And of course, some of these require some explanation.
Magma became the basis for metallic elements, as superheated material is integral to the purification process.
Energy itself is broken up into many different disciplines, only a few of which a Toa of Energy could master. Examples include internal energy, thermal energy, and those listed around Energy.
Erosion is the element of decay. Combining it with other elements results in destructive or toxic versions.
Crystal is the element of purity. It refines elements combined with it to their purest forms.
Mud is the element of industrialization. From the earth comes the materials we need to produce oil, cement, plastic, etc.
Life is too great for any Toa to wield, and must be broken into a discipline. Controlling the mind, the body, the bone, or the leaf is more manageable.
East Wind is the element of destruction. Combining it with other elements inverts them into their absence.

Dang that's a lotta elements
Probably more elements than a sane person would want all at the same time
